"With four paintings created in recent years, Louis [sic!] Corinth moves into the collection of paintings from Hamburg," wrote Alfred Lichtwark, the first director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, in his preface to the "Guide to the Exhibition of Gifts and Acquisitions 1912." This was the first time he mentioned the acquisition of paintings by Corinth for the Hamburg art collection, who had not previously been represented in the Kunsthalle. However, Lichtwark thus also expresses his longsome process of approaching this artistic work.
