Description:
This mug shows one of Pablo Picasso's famous one-line drawings of a dog. The minimalist sketch comes from one of the artist's notebooks from 1907, which is now kept in the Musée National Picasso in Paris. Although the drawing was created long before Picasso met his dachshund Lump, it reminds many of this special dog, who later played an important role in Picasso's life.
Lump came into Picasso's life in 1957 when photographer David Douglas Duncan visited the artist at his villa La Californie near Cannes. The dachshund jumped out of Duncan's car and spontaneously decided to stay with Picasso. The painter was immediately taken with the little dog and immortalised him in a drawing on the very same day[4]. Picasso and Lump developed a special relationship. The artist said of him that he was ‘neither dog nor human, but really someone else’.
A perfect gift for art and dog lovers.
