Description:
The painting "The Terrace at the Restaurant Jacob" by Max Liebermann is one of the highlights of the collection of the Hamburger Kunsthalle and has been inspiring our visitors for decades. We have now decided to make the impressionist masterpiece "sensually tangible" and weave it as a tapestry using an elaborate technique.
A tapestry is characterised by the fact that its motif is not simply printed on, but worked in and looks as if it has been embroidered by hand.
Our blanket was produced on a rare Jumboloom loom on Lake Como with yarns that come exclusively from Europe. When weaving, there are always 6 weft threads running at the same time, raised and lowered in different rhythms, requiring great skill on the part of the jacquard technician and weaving card designer. On fine black warp, the coarser weft threads are shot in 6 colours and the difference in the fineness of the yarns creates the gobeline effect.
We produced the jewellery, limited to 20 pieces, with Antje Rauner, who works for Escada, Bogner, Manufactum and Iris von Arnim, among others.
