Description:
Postcard book Caspar David Friedrich - Clouds and Light

How could it be that the early Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich created paintings in the twilight, behind the shuttered window of his studio in Dresden, whose skies play with subtle reflections of light, with hidden sources of light that flash as fine but glistening lines under black clouds? How could it be that Friedrich was able to paint multi-layered mountains of clouds, capturing the twilight of the morning, through which the first sunlight then seeps through as if in contradiction? Naturalistic, exact and at the same time the promise of the unpainted day. He could simply do it. Perhaps thanks to his gift for observation, thanks to the numerous sketches he made on his hikes, including explanatory notes, and certainly also thanks to his ability to imagine, which produced compositions of clouds and light that were differentiated to the point of abstraction.
