On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Griffelkunst-Vereinigung Hamburg e.V., the Hamburger Kunsthalle is showing an extensive selection of lithographs, screen prints, etchings, woodcuts, but also photographs or C-prints from the programme of the last 100 years as well as some archive documents in the Galerie der Gegenwart.

The association has been publishing editions of original prints since 1925 and makes these print series by selected artists available to its members. The series are not primarily selected according to their formal or thematic coherence, but are intended to convey as representative an idea as possible of the respective artist's oeuvre using examples from their graphic work. The Griffelkunst-Vereinigung is characterised by the juxtaposition of works by established national and international artists and lesser-known, often young artists of different nationalities and generations, as well as the collaboration with printmakers.

4,500 members belong to this extraordinary printmaking association throughout Germany. The Hamburger Kunsthalle has also been a member since the association was founded and has presented many of the series in various exhibitions over the years.
